Firefighters Children's Parade Rules
1. Absolutely NO alcohol is to be consumed by anyone participating in any way in the parade.
2. The floats shall be no higher than 8 feet from the deck, unless otherwise approved in advance
by the committee. There will be a limit of no more than 25 floats in the parade.
3. This year's theme is "A Salute to Hollywood", and all participants should be
in a theme-related costume appropriate for a children's parade.
4. There will be no more than 10 small children (ages 6 - 14) and no more than 2
adults riding on each float.
5. Each float must provide a pickup truck to pull their float. Each float is
required to have 6 to 8 adults waking along the side of the floats to supervise
the children throwing items, as well as to carry restraining poles alongside of
the float. This is for the safety of everyone involved. It is also strongly
recommended that all adults be in theme-related costume.
6. You must have a 2" trailer hitch on the truck to pull the float, as well as safety
chains. All vehicles are subject to inspection.
7. Each float must provide a fire extinguisher for your float.
8. NO ONE is to ride in the back of any trucks pulling the floats.
9. NO ONE is to be hanging over the side of the floats.
10. Each float sponsor should submit a list of the children who ride on their float to
Charles Olsen at least 1 week prior to the date of the parade.
11. All floats MUST be in the parade line-up by 12:00 pm, Sunday, the day of the
parade. Line-up will be on 27th Street, between Avenue Q and Seawall Boulevard. Floats may
be disqualified if not ready to depart by 12:00 pm.
12. The drivers of the vehicles must provide a copy of the vehicle's liability insurance as well
as his/her driver's license when submitting the registration forms. These copies are a requirement
by the City. The drivers of the vehicles are not permitted to throw beads at any time, and no
one is to throw beads out while the parade is not moving.
13. There will be positively no switching of children on or off of floats during the parade.
14. No animals are allowed to participate in this parade.
15. No 2-wheel bicycles, roller-skates, or skateboards are allowed in the parade.
*In order to maintain a safe environment for our children, all rules will be strictly enforced.
Failure to comply with these rules will result in your loss of position in the parade, as well as the opportunity to participate in future events.
Our mission is to provide a safe environment for our children, while giving them a chance to enjoy the excitement of participating in a Mardi Gras parade.
